FujiNet is a multi-peripheral emulator and WiFi network device for vintage computers. The first completed hardware was for Atari 8-Bit computers and development has begun for other systems with the goal of supporting as many as possible. What sets FujiNet apart from other WiFi devices is the new Network Device (the N device, or NDEV). The N device allows vintage computers that do not have enough processing power to handle TCP/IP connections talk to the modern internet over WiFi. Virtual adapters have been created for many protocols including: TCP, UDP, HTTP, FTP, TNFS, HTTPS (SSL/TLS), SSH, TELNET, WebDAV and JSON parser.
In addition to its extensive networking capabilities, FujiNet also emulates a wide range of classic peripherals, including:
- Disk Drives with support for local disk images and network-mounted volumes
- Cassette data recorder/player interfaces
- Modem for BBS communication over the internet
- Printers with output to PDF for saving or printing with modern printers
- Network Clock providing real-time clock functionality over the network
- SAM Text-to-Speech (Software Automatic Mouth) for authentic Atari-style voice synthesis
These device emulations let your vintage system load software, save data, print output, and even speak text—all through a single, compact WiFi-enabled module. Not all platforms support every peripheral that FujiNet can emulate which is dependent on how FujiNet connects to the vintage computer. At minimum, every platform supports Disk Drives and the Network Device.
What does it provide?
FujiNet provides the following functionality in various states of progress:
| Device | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| C: (Cassette) | Works | Load CAS files from SD or TNFS servers |
| D: (Disk) | Works | Load floppy disk images from onboard MicroSD or networked TNFS server. Supports ATR, ATX, and XEX formats. |
| R: (Modem) | Works | 850 Modem emulation, supports Type 1 Poll to load handler. Works with existing communications programs such as Ice-T, BobTerm, AMODEM, PLATOTERM, and BBS servers. |
| P: (Printer) | Works | Printer output saved to PDF files downloadable from the device. Available Printers: 820, 822, 825, 1020, 1025, 1027, 1029, Espon 80, Okimate 10, HTML for copy/paste, GRANTIC Screen Printer. Example 822 Printouts (PDF): Text & Graphics. Example 1027 Printout (PDF): N-Hndlr ASM Text. |
| N: (Network) | Works / In Progress | NEW networking device. #FujiNet configuration commands in place and working (WiFi, mounting, etc). TCP/UDP working. Handler in progress. |
| Other | Working & In Progress | SIO2BT Bluetooth Connection. Apetime Real Time Clock (NTP). SAM Text To Speech as a printer, voice output from #FujiNet to Atari (Video with explanation, WAV File & SAM short video). MIDIMaze network gaming in progress (Video) |
More functionality will be available in the future with updates to the firmware.
